7 February 2006 THIS proves that a picture is worth 1,000 words (and probably laughs in this instance). I have been hard at work compiling my Knowledge Magazine cover mix CD that will coincide with Issue 66 due out April 27th 2006! So, you probably won't hear from me again until after that is mixed. 31 December 2005 Top Ten of 2005! I ended up playing three sets (about 4 and a half hours of mixing total) on Saturday in SF- Futurebreaks FM, Virgin Megastore and Anu Bar. Special thanks to the Drop Heavy boys in Sacramento and DJ M in SF for being great hosts and making for a nice stay in CA. For those of you in NY, I am playing Direct Drive on June 18th- a last minute substitute because of DJ Rap's scheduling problems. Lastly, if you don't own Exercise 5 yet, go buy a copy! 29 May 2005 Back from the first leg of the tour- I want to thank everyone that came out to the events, along with Kenyeh, Radiata, Stunna, Mykey and Graham for being such great hosts. The official release date of the CD is May 24th. Look out for the Omni Trio Rmx of 'Sprouts' which is currently on test press and will appear as the B-Side on Offshore 013. The March issue of ATM will contain a piece on Clever/Offshore, be sure to pick up a copy! 20 February 2005 It is too late to wish everyone a 'Happy New Year', so instead I will extend my thanks to the promoters that have brought me out to play this year. Very kind and inspirational words- Offshore presents Troubled Waters, mixed by DJ Clever (Offshore) "Bit of a turn-up for the books this one--the best drum'n'bass mix-CD I've heard in... probably six and a half years. Since it all went crap, in other words. This is like the last six years never happened--the one-bar loop, the grrrr-grrrr B-line, the Optical-damaged pounding aerobic tedium of all it. An alternate history taking off from Source Direct and the later, still-good Reinforced and those precious few Metalheadz moments, spliced with some Bukem-ite aqua-funk-but-with-balls. Not mash-up, not ragga, but (Soundmurderer & Remarc hindsight-adjustment withal) that was never all that jungle had to offer, was it? I suppose this is more properly described as drum & bass. The breaks still break, the bass actually moves (rhythmically and melodically) rather than just riffing Bad Company-style--but it's not anthemy; indeed the fractured flow aesthetic makes it quite a tracky experience. Stand-out subsequence for me is probably Intex Systems/'Drum Track 1'[ruff!!!] >>Sileni/'Twitchy Droid Leg'[TITLE!!! And an accurate description!]>>Paradox/'I Get A Kickback' [full-kit funkspasm], but really it's all good; DJ Clever takes you on the proverbial 'journey,' right through to a lovely idyll-coda with Alaska's 'Rare Earth'. Nice to see some old Moving Shadow bods in the mix--Justice, and Sean O'Keeffe of 2BadMice/Kaotic Chemistry/Deep Blue fame, which last moniker he's still trading under here. The tunes are all on Offshore BTW. Shimmering rainforesty beat-foliage and texturhythmic mayhem, Troubled Waters'll Kodwofy your bodymind. It reminds me of the last time I really brocked out to D&B in BOTH full polyriddim delirium AND absolute present tense (as opposed to time-travel-tinged experiences a la Ripley, Soundmurderer, etc), and that would have been this set by Dego MacFarlane in 1998, an almost-empty basement at this club in Manhattan called Speeeed. The music danced me. I get that feeling from this CD and it makes me hungry to hear Clever (a chap called Brett who works at Breakbeat Science and runs Offshore) drop it live through an engulfing system. Plus the cover is a cute seascape picture. Out in mid-July." 28 May 2004 "Troubled Waters" sees release on July 13th 2004. If anyone is interested in booking a date for the tour, please get in touch. The Ohm Resistance/Offshore split 10" series has been very well received, the Seba, OSR007, made it to reviews in both ATM and Knowledge and XLR8R is doing an Offshore label profile in March. Not to mention a bunch of other projects that are coming together, which include a Clever mix of all Offshore tracks for Single Cell music, a follow up Ohm Resistance/Offshore Series and the mastering of OSR008, ASC/Sileni, and OSR009, Nucleus + Paradox. Try to tune in, or come out or listen to the 12" [or all of the above]! 11 July 2003 Well, here is an update that is well overdue. You will notice an updated Events page, including an upcoming gig with Photek!!! The Offshore EP is out, so be sure to pick that up at your local shop. Push continues on, adding Controlled Substance of Illformants to the list of guests. Watch this space for a new mix soon! 01 May 2003 Push, the haven for "Leftfield" Drum & Bass in NYC, is now solely a Clever/Offshore event, so be sure to come witness history in the making! Deep Blue's 'Soho Code' finally sees release on Offshore Recordings, go pick it up and urge your local shops to carry it. The only unsigned Tundra [Morgan Packard & Clever] tune 'Deep Sleep' has been nabbed by Anticipate Recordings in NYC. Look for that in the future. To ensure this 12" comes out, be sure to purchase their debut release, Ezekiel Honig 'Technology is Lonely' CD.
